A fantastic day of hurling was had on Sunday, the 28th of January, as young and old from near and far took to the roads of Moycullen for the first-ever Hurling on the Road event. The atmosphere was electric as Michael D’Arcy shipped more than fifty teams from the clubhouse in Baile Doite to the starting point in Leagaun.
There was huge support from clubs across the county, with representatives from Bearna Na Forbacha, Turloughmore, Liam Mellows, Beagh, Kilconeiron, Spiddal, Clarenbridge and Rahoon-Newcastle taking part. The course proved quite the challenge, with hidden dips and bends that challenged even the most experienced and savvy competitors. It is worth mentioning the fantastic turnout from our juvenile hurlers. There were some outstanding displays from our brightest young stars. While there were mixed fortunes on the day in terms of the results a fantastic day was had by all who participated and well over 2,500 being raised for Hope4Liam.
A huge thanks to all the people in the background who worked so hard to get this event up and running.
It is hard to put into words what an integral part of the hurling club Liam is. Last year he represented us at U-20, Junior and Senior level at different stages throughout the year always giving it all for his club and teammates. We are all behind Liam as he continues to battle hard and give his all like we are so used to seeing on the pitch.
