The Chalking of the Door is a house blessing done on or after the Feast of the Epiphany (Nollaig na mBan), 6th January. A priest puts the following mark on or over the front door with blessed chalk: 20+C+M+B+24. CMB stands for “Christus Mansionem Benedicat (may Christ bless this dwelling).” CMB also stands for the names of the three wise men; Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar.
